Former Prime Minister Freundel Stuart Addresses DLP Branch Meeting on National Governance
Why This Video Is Here
Barbados has now entered its third consecutive parliamentary term without an elected opposition in the House of Assembly. In February 2026, the Barbados Labour Party won all 30 seats for the third time, leaving no elected voice in the Lower House to scrutinise, challenge, or hold the government to account through the mechanisms parliament was designed to provide.
In that environment, credible voices from outside the chamber become more important, not less. Former Prime Ministers, constitutional scholars, legal practitioners, civil society leaders, and experienced policy voices carry an accountability function that the current parliamentary structure cannot provide from within.
The Honourable Freundel Stuart served as Prime Minister of Barbados from 2010 to 2018. Before entering elected politics he practiced as a barrister and built a reputation as a careful and deliberate legal thinker. He governed Barbados for eight years. When he speaks on matters of national governance, legislation, or democratic direction, he does so with institutional knowledge, constitutional grounding, and direct experience of how the machinery of government in Barbados actually works.
At a recent Democratic Labour Party branch meeting, Mr. Stuart addressed members on matters of national governance and legislation currently before the parliament. Barbados Policy Pulse is sharing this recording as part of our commitment to ensuring that credible voices outside the House of Assembly remain accessible to the Barbadian public, at home and in the diaspora.
We encourage every Barbadian to watch, listen carefully, and form their own view.
Barbados Policy Pulse does not endorse the political views or party affiliation of any speaker featured on this platform. We share credible voices across the political, legal, and policy spectrum so that Barbadians have access to informed perspectives on the governance decisions that affect their lives. We encourage readers to engage critically with all content published here.
